Attending ATR Classes

I've recently made a decision to start attending ATR classes again for the rest of the month. I took the class last year so I did not need to register to take it again as a part of my application process. I am going to start sitting in on the class though just in case I need to brush up on old information or in case anything new is presented. I figure this really can't hurt, and honestly will only help my application process.

One day I will be taping again!

Lame Duck

I hate this time period because all I have to do right now for my ATR application is wait. I've turned in all of my components and my interview isn't for another month. I may try to go to career services for help with interview practice and I'm also planning my outfit already so that I feel confident!

March is National Athletic Training awareness month!
1. Athletic trainers are NOT personal trainers
2. Athletic trainers don't only work at schools
3. Athletic trainers recognize, evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate

One of my favorite "wellness activities" is driving by myself with music, I think it helps me feel good emotionally and socially to get away for a bit and concentrate on things.

#1 Goal

Obviously, my #1 goal is to get into the school for my major. Last year I was confident that I would get into the ATR program, but I fell short by one. This year, to try to up my chances so that I can for sure get in, I made it a point to be more engaged during my clincal hours. Every day in the training room, these were my personal goals...
1. Engage in conversation with the ACI's, ask questions in ways that show you know what you are talking about.
2. Really try to learn how all the modalities work so that when I get in the program, they know I will be competent at operating them.
3. Don't come in tired or distracted, leave outside drama and thoughts at the door so that focus lies on training when in the room
4. Make myself known to ACI's, go to practices with them so they know my face and name
5. Talk to and hang out with the other students so that they grow to like you, know your name, and feel comfortable with you being a part of their program.

My Goals!

We had a great speaker in class today who discussed goal setting!
Here are a few of my goals...
1. Work out at least every other day not just to look good, but to feel good.
2. Get into the Athletic Training Program! I'm working really hard on this one!
3. Get all A's this semester.
4. Make the money to pay off my credit card bill and go skiing with friends in March.

Socially...

Socially, my wellness is not great right now. My best friend of almost two years who I lived with and got through a lot of things together yet I have just found out, is really not a good friend. She basically started seeing a guy whom she knew I had a rough background with, a background she had supposedly been there to get me through. I cannot believe she could ever hurt me like this. She threw away over a year of friendship with no regard whatsoever. I have never been more hurt. I feel down, I feel lonely, and I know this is going to take a really long time to get over. Right now I am trying to focus on my school and career building though. At least I can be proud of my successes.

Change = Step 1 ! & Goal Setting

This is my favorite quote ever.
If you don't like something, nothing will happen unless you change it!

My main goal for right now is to change my behaviors in ways that will be more productive to me getting into the highly selective athletic training program at my school.

Emotional
3.    Take steps to go above and beyond the application requirements so that I get into athletic training for next year.
5.  Talk to and interact with the ACI’s and other students so they get to know and like me.Study old and new material outside of what I need to know to get in so that I am ahead of the game.

            6.   Study old and new material outside of what I need to know to get in so that I am ahead of the game.

I chose for my goals to be in the emotional dimension because to me, athletic training and my major is not so much an intellectual part of my life as an emotional one. I realized last year when I did not get in that I felt more emotionally upset than intellectually incapable. I also feel that being very emotionally involved in trying to get in will help me in the long run and show the program directors how passionate I am about it. These goals are extremely important to me because they reflect my life goals. I want to be an athletic trainer and step 1 is getting into our selective program. If I can attain these short term goals, I will feel more confident about getting into the program and will also probably be more likely to. My wellness self assessment did not really help me determine my goals because as much as I would like to change my eating or exercising habits (or anything else the assessment told me), getting into my major is top priority for me right now.

My Wellness Blog!

I'm starting this blog a bit early for a course project because I actually want it to help me! I am taking a High Level Wellness class and required to keep a blog for it (I think it's a pretty cool assignment!) Anyways, here's my "about me"
My name is Hannah
I am a sophomore at UNCW
I am applying to be an Athletic Training Student
I am a sister of Alpha Xi Delta sorority
I am an ACE certified personal trainer, so I know a thing or two about physical wellness.

I'm setting goals for myself for the semester which include...
1. I want to lose 15 lbs. for summer... gotta get that hot summer bod.
2. I want to have healthier eating habits
3. I want to get more sleep!
4. I want to get into the Athletic Training school

I'll be updating regularly on my progress & giving my own little wellness tips!
